How it works
From your kitchen to the feed in four steps
Publishing on Simmer takes about the same time as writing a text message. Here's exactly what happens at each stage.
Publishing a recipe
1. Write it down
Give your recipe a title, a short honest description, the cook time and the category it belongs to — breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert.
2. Add the photo
Upload a shot of the finished dish straight from your phone. One good photo beats ten perfect ones; we crop and optimise it for you.
3. Publish to the feed
Your recipe appears in the community feed and its category page instantly, with tags so other cooks can find it by ingredient.
4. Collect feedback
Cooks who make your dish leave a star rating, a comment and often their own photo of the result.
Tools for cooks
Private cookbook
Bookmark anything you want to cook later and find it all in one place.
Photo comments
Post a picture of your attempt under any recipe to show how it went.
Honest ratings
Rate only what you've cooked, so the scores stay useful for everyone.
Frequently asked
- Do I need an account?
- You can browse, search and read every recipe without signing in. An account is only needed to publish, rate, comment or save recipes to your cookbook.
- Who owns the recipes I post?
- You do. Publishing on Simmer gives the community permission to read, cook and comment on your recipe — nothing more. You can edit or remove it at any time.
- How are ratings calculated?
- Each recipe shows the average of all one-to-five star ratings alongside the number of reviews, so a 5.0 from two cooks reads differently from a 4.6 from two hundred.
- Can I save recipes for later?
- Yes — tap the bookmark on any card and it lands in your private cookbook, available on every device you sign in from.
- What makes a recipe get featured?
- Trending picks are ranked by a mix of ratings, saves and comment activity over the past week. Good photos and clear steps help more than anything else.
